Easiest Apple Crumb

Apple crumb is hands down my favorite traditional fall dessert. I love all types of pie (and pretty much all desserts) in general, but apple crumb just tastes like fall to me and I seem to be passing that love on to my two little girls. This is a great recipe to do with your kids (my 3 year old helped me) and it doesn’t need a ton of ingredients (most of which you probably have on hand already). This perfect to bring with you to Thanksgiving and everyone will think it took way more effort than it actually did.

The cook time is 45 minutes, and I would say prep time is 20 minutes (but honestly, it depends on how fast you can peel and slice 6 apples – I use an apple slicer to speed this up). This should also sit for 20 minutes after it’s done cooking before serving, so keep these times in mind before making.

Ingredients:

Filling:

6 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced

4 teaspoons of lemon juice (I always have organic pure lemon juice on hand so I used this, but this amount would be the juice from about one lemon)

¼ cup light brown sugar

1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Crumb:

¾ cup all-purpose flour

¾ cup packed light brown sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

6 tablespoons unsalted, melted butter

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Put all sliced apple slices in your pie dish (you can really use any baking dish, but just make sure it isn’t too big) and pour your lemon juice all over.

In a separate bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon (this is for the filling) and pour over the apples. Mix well so all apples are coated.

You can use the same bowl you used before, mix flour, brown sugar and cinnamon. Slowly pour the melted butter into the mix. The consistency should resemble crumb cake, so be sure not to over mix. Pour crumbs over the apples and make sure whole dish is evenly covered.

Put in over for 45 mins (the crumbs will be golden and apples will be soft when you poke with a fork). If you are finding that the crumbs are golden, but the apples are not soft, you can cover with foil and cook until apples do become soft.

Remove from oven and let sit for 20 minutes so the filling becomes thick and gooey.

Serve with vanilla ice cream and top with whipped cream.

Enjoy!!!
