How to fake dewy skin

Back when my friend Alex had her bachelorette, I did my other friend Jen’s makeup (I looooove doing face makeup). She absolutely loved the way it came out.. so much in fact that I did her makeup the day she got engaged too (it was a surprise though). She has specially requested this post – so this one’s for you, @Jennimaemetz

For starters..go dampen a beauty sponge and set it to the side. I prefer beauty blender (it’s about $20 and lasts a while – just make sure you replace every few months because #bacteria). I always throw a moisturizer on my face at this point – my favorite right now is this skin medica product that I am trying out (will link in a few days if I keep liking it).. you want to keep your skin hydrated and unfortunately, layering products can remove your natural moisture.

If you are a primer gal, go ahead and add a primer that adds a glow – don’t opt for a matte primer, that goes against the end goal. I have done this look with and without primer. If I’m feeling it, I go for the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in “Radiance”. It’s a pretty peachy color and adds a nice glow. If applying a primer, go ahead and use your damp beauty sponge. This is the key.

Next up, you’re going to put on a light foundation or CC cream. My holy grail CC cream is the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream in light/medium. I have been using this stuff for YEARS. Like I wanna say 5 or 6 years. I always go back to it. I like a natural coverage and this gives me just that. The best part is that if you want to have fuller coverage, you just add more – it’s so buildable. Love it. Ok, so you are going to add your foundation/CC cream to your face with the beauty sponge. Don’t cake it on. Start light and build up as needed.

Add your concealer now. I use Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in “Custard”. I don’t use much – I just focus on where my dark circles are. Use the damp beauty blender to spread this under your eyes. If you find that you crease a lot, add whatever loose powder you would like. I opt for the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – but I ran out 🙂 I only use a little of this because it will make your skin matte. I only focus this powder right where I crease and I apply this with the beauty blender as well. It helps the powder blend right in.

Here is the gold – you are going to use a liquid illuminator. I always use Nars Illuminator in “Orgasm”. This is a peachy color so you are going to put some on the back of your hand (this illuminator comes in a squeeze tube for convenience) and dip your damp beauty sponge into it a bit – start at the apples of your cheeks (if you don’t know what this is, smile with your mouth closed and it’s the rounded part of your cheek) and work your way up your cheek bone. This stuff gives you THE BEST GLOW EVER. OMG. And I feel like I never hear of anyone using this product ever. Am I the only one?? It’s so good. If you’re going to get anything from this post.. get this.

We want to gently set the face now. I only use Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in “Dim Light”. This powder leaves the most beautiful finish on the skin and doesn’t make your skin matte. It leaves a subtle glow, which is perfect for this look. So you are going to grab a fluffy powder brush, swirl it in the powder and gently press the powder all over the forehead, nose and chin. You can use whatever is left on your cheeks if you’d like.

Now, because I am crazy, I add a powder highlight as well – but just a touch. Right now, I am loving Morphe Highlight Powder in “Extra”. I use a little fan brush and lightly swipe some of this on. I die for a good glow.

I always follow up with a spray. I consistently use Mario Badescu Facial Spray (the pink bottle). I have no idea what this stuff does, but it smells good, doesn’t break me out and gives me a little hydration. Oh and it lasts a while too. So I spray some of this on just to dampen my skin and then I use the beauty blender all over my entire face so it blends all of the powders and creams together.

Ta-da! There is your final masterpiece. Feel free to do whatever to your eyes – I tend to keep it simple and throw on a beige sparkly eye shadow and some mascara and I always do my brows. Lips I keep simple with a gloss.

Until next time,
