Positano, Italy. One of the most romantic places I have ever visited. I surprised my husband with a trip to Italy in June 2018 and this was one of our stops. We spent 4 magical days exploring the amazing city. Walking around, there are so many shops and restaurants.. and not to mention the city is so aesthetically pleasing. We spent a lot of time exploring, walking around and checking places out. I have compiled a list of the best places to go when in positano! Keep reading 🙂
Restaurants
Chez Black ~ Ok, so first off, majority of the restaurants sit facing the Mediterranean; Chez Black included. This restaurant has a lot of mermaid accent pieces and is always packed. The “hot thing” on the menu to order was the sea urchin pasta, but I wasn’t brave enough to try. I am kind of a wimp when it comes to seafood. My husband and I shared the pesto pasta, a margherita pizza and a bottle of chianti. OH EM GEE. Such a good meal. The pasta was so creamy and flavorful. The pizza tasted so fresh (I have never described pizza as fresh?? but it’s true). This restaurant was where we went for dinner the first night we were in Positano and I highly recommend it – a must if you are in Positano!
Buca di Bacco ~ This restaurant again overlooks the Med. It is a hotel/restaurant. We didn’t stay at the hotel, but it is definitely right in the heart of the city and in a great location. Ok – but the food. Yum. We ordered bolognese, a margherita pizza and a bottle of chianti (seeing a trend?). Everything was amazing. You can tell all of the ingredients are so fresh. My husband, Mark, also ordered Sole that was filleted right at the table – again, I am a wimp when it comes to seafood, so I did not try but he said it phenomenal.
Collina Bakery ~ Not a restaurant, but a must. We went to this bakery every day we were in Positano. Order the nocciola gelato. You will not be disappointed. YUMMMMMM.
Where we stayed
We stayed at the beautiful Le Agavi Hotel. Extremely pricey, but you can’t beat the views. Every room is overlooking the beautiful city and Mediterranean. I will post pictures of the views below. The service was amazing too. The hotel is essentially built into a cliff and there are so.many.stairs…but there is also a funicular (pretty much an elevator that goes down the cliff) to help you get around. It was honestly so confusing trying to find our room on our own but we figured it out. The first day at the hotel, we went down to the “beach” on the property (note: don’t expect sand; if you are going in the water, you are walking down a few steps from the deck directly into the water). It was set up really nice and there was a little restaurant down there. We ordered two glasses of wine and a tuna sandwich (so random, I know). The sandwich was weirdly the best tuna sandwich either of us have ever had. Back towards the upper levels of the hotel, there is a pool, which was beautiful. I’m telling you – there is not a single bad view at the hotel. Breakfast was complimentary and served every morning. It was yummy. Also – the hotel has a shuttle that brings you close to the city center every half hour. This made is so convenient to come and go. I highly recommend this hotel.
What to do
My husband and I are very go with the flow when it comes to vacations. We definitely love to immerse ourselves in the culture, but we also want to relax. In Positano, we set ourself up to go on a sunset cruise one evening. Unfortunately, the cruise ended up being cancelled because of an insane thunderstorm (it was so cool though. The dark clouds like came down the mountain and over the city. nuts.), we weren’t insanely disappointed because we got pretty sunburnt earlier in the day lol. Like I mentioned earlier, we did A LOT of walking around and exploring – one afternoon, we stopped into this local store and go prosciutto, wine, cheese and some snacks and just posted up on our balcony and enjoyed everything before going out. The beach in the city is pretty nice. You have to pay (I think 15 euro?), but you get a day pass and chaise lounges with an umbrella. The water is a bit chilly (we went in June), but it was refreshing when we got super hot. There are so so so many cute clothing and jewelry boutiques. We did quite a lot of shopping. Positano is known for their turquoise.. so naturally I got a turquose ring. The clothing in the boutiques is very ‘free people’ – very bohemian. Which I love. So… I bought a lot of clothes lol. Mark and I went to Capri one day (about a half hour ferry ride away) and got lunch at a little restaurant (we got a caprese sandwich to share – again, so freakin fresh; and we shared a local beer called Birra) and just walked around exploring. We picked up some more souvenirs and then we found…….a leather shoe store. It took some convincing of my husband, but we both got leather shoes – sandals for me, boat shoes for him. Honestly, I probably wear them more than any of my other sandals to this day and I am so happy I have something to remember this vacation by… even if it is just shoes! We skipped the blue grotto excursion in Capri because we were hearing it was overrated. I don’t regret not seeing it.
All in all, Positano is a place we still talk about to this day. We swear we will go back. We loved it so much. I will drop some pictures below. Let me know if you have any questions or if you have been to Positano!
Until next time,
Lauryn xo
