Makeup Brush Cleaning Routine to Reduce Breakouts

If you’re wearing makeup, chances are you are using a makeup brush to apply at least one portion of your makeup. I wear makeup nearly every day, so my brushes are getting very dirty. Have you noticed that your makeup applies poorly when your brushes are really dirty? I have! It’s streaky and doesn’t blend well. Plus, there is nothing worse than when you reach to grab an eye shadow brush and it has the darkest color on it from a specific look that you no longer want lol.. Forcing you to grab a different one (which I rarely have clean) or to use your fingers.

Not only does a dirty makeup brush effect your makeup application, but they also harbor so much dirt and bacteria. You put them in makeup, then put it on your face.. they sit around for the hours/days you aren’t using them, collecting dust and even more bacteria – you’re creating a perfect environment for breakouts on your face.

I would like to clean my brushes every 2-3 days, but in my current season, it is happening about once a week, sometimes every two weeks. I use my holy grail makeup cleanser: Cinema Secrets makeup brush cleaner. I pour a small amount into a glass, dip my makeup brush into the liquid, and swirl the brush on a clean washcloth until all makeup comes off. This product has a strong smell, but I don’t mind it. I read that you should spray the brushes with alcohol if you plan on using them before they dry, however, I just let them dry fully. I haven’t broken out from them and I have sensitive skin.

I have been using this product for 3 years and it has not effected the quality of my brushes at all. It just gets them squeaky clean!

What’s your go-to way to clean your makeup brushes? Leave it in the comments!

Until next time,
